| At Ottley Smiles, we our pleased to provide the NTI-tss (Nocioceptive Trigeminal Inhibition Tension Suppression System) appliance. This appliance is the first clinically proven, non-drug method for the prevention of migraines. The NTI-tss is a small, virtually invisible mouthpiece that covers only your upper front teeth while you sleep. This appliance may be indicated for daytime wear also.
In a clinical trial, 82% of migraine sufferers who used the NTI-tss for 8 weeks had a 77% average reduction in migraine attacks. The NTI-tss device reduced not only migraine attacks, but also the need for medication usually taken to treat migraine pain. Better yet, the NTI-tss is custom-fitted in one thirty-minute visit. Migraine and tension-type headaches are both medically diagnosed benign conditions. These conditions are confirmed to be benign only after thorough medical tests have confirmed that there are no disease processes that are the cause of the patient's pain. At Ottley Smiles, the NTI-tss device will only be used for migraine and tension-type headache reduction after the condition has been medically diagnosed. In some cases the NTI-tss device can also be used for the prevention of abnormal muscular function (bruxism) and the TMJ syndrome patient. If you are interested in learning more about the NTI-tss device and migraines then check out their website at www.NTI-tss.com. |

When you lose a tooth, the biting forces change on the teeth next to the space, causing them to shift. Opposing teeth may even begin to extrude out of the socket, which means they too could eventually be lost. As your bite changes, it gets more difficult to chew your food, and you may suffer damage to your jaw joint. It's also much harder to clean teeth that have shifted; harmful plaque and tartar collect in the new hard-to-reach places created by the shifting, causing tooth decay and periodontal disease.
For all these reasons, it's critical that we replace a lost tooth. An excellent option for replacing a missing tooth is an artificial tooth secured by a dental implant. Implants are titanium cylinders that are surgically placed in your jaw to serve as artificial tooth roots. Attaching a replacement tooth to an implant allows us to avoid placing a bridge. Bridges require that we prepare the adjacent natural teeth, and that weakens them substantially.
If you're interested in replacing a missing tooth with an implant, we will perform a thorough evaluation to determine whether your health and lifestyle make you a good candidate for this kind of restoration.

| The TMJ, or Temporomandibular Joint, is an extremely complex joint system like no other joint in the human body. To complicate things further, two TMJ's are connected to the same bone (Jaw). Each of these joints can simultaneously act separately and yet not completely without influence from the other.
With such a complex system, it is only natural to have a number of things that can cause TMJ pain including a "high" and or uncomfortable filling or crown, poor sleep or dietary habits, grinding teeth, injury or "trauma" to the jaw, crooked or tilted teeth and many more. All of these things could be part of the reason your jaw hurts. When you have "jaw pain", it is important to try to recognize things that hurt and things that help your pain. By identifying habits or certain instances when your jaw particularly hurts, you can help us treat you. |

Functional Jaw Orthopedics (FJO) is a more progressive form of orthodontics that combines traditional braces with removable appliances. The idea is to diagnose crowding and malocclusions at a younger age and to intervene earlier to work with the child's natural growth and development to make room for all the teeth resulting in a beautiful broad smile. Traditional orthodontics treats later and with unnecessary extractions of adult teeth resulting in a narrow smile that has the "black hole" look at the corners of the smile. If caught early, crowding and other problems can be treated with appliances and the correct amount of growth can be achieved to make room for all the permanent teeth to fit resulting in a nicer, wider smile. We are also proud to offer Invisalign. The patented Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually reposition teeth. This system allows us to straighten your teeth without using the brackets and wires of traditional braces. Dr. Jared and Dr. Karina both have extensive training in growth and development of children and functional jaw orthopedics. For more information please visit www.invisalign.com. |
